By
the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, The Cathedral of St. Sava in
New York City humbly presents this Web Site to all Christian-Orthodox
faithful, to God-abiding Serbs, and to all those otherwise guided
to it by Divine Providence.
Our
Parish had commenced its holy mission in 1937; in 1940, the Church
was registered under the name of "Eastern-Orthodox
Church of Saint Sava"; Two years later, the building currently
housing the church was purchased from the Episcopal Church, and
the building was consecrated in 1944, at which time the Church was
named to "Cathedral of St. Sava".
In
its short, yet tempestuous, history, by the Grace of God and His
Faithful Servant of St. Sava, our Church had withstood numerous
trails and tribulations and its spire still proudly points
to the Manhattan skyline, where from it invites, calls upon, and
convenes its flock, urging the faithful into spiritual communion
and unity with Our Lord Jesus Christ. Today, by Divine Grace and
through the power of St. Sava's prayers, this magnificent temple
- which is a registered historical landmark of the City of New York,
as well as the biggest Serbian Orthodox Temple in North America
- is being flocked by an ever-growing number of the Serbian Orthodox
faithful. The religious Serbs: the young, the educated and the talented,
are increasingly gathering around their Church and expressing their
desire to reach out to the faithful at large, to help spread the
Word of God, and to distribute information and organize social activities
via the most modern of methods - the Internet. Likewise, we wish
to exchange our spiritual experiences and share our joys and sorrows
with All Christian Orthodoxy. To those spiritually lost and bereaved
souls, wandering aimlessly and despondently around this big metropolis,
we wish to re-introduce Our Holy Mother-Church of St. Sava, which
pleads with them, open-armed and teary-eyed: "Return to thy
mother, The Church, petition the Lord with Prayers and embrace
the Holy Oath of Kosovo; Brief is this earthly kingdom; The Kingdom
of the Lord is unto all eternity".

In
the name of the Interim Church Council and all parishioners of the
St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, I wish to express my heartfelt
gratitude to Dr. Rade Mihajilovic who generously provided the space
for this Web Site, and to all those of you without whose infinite
dedication and devotion this blessed deed would have been impossible.
We pray to
the Lord that our Web Site will be of lasting spiritual value and
that it will provide a thorough and invaluable source of information
on social, cultural and spiritual activities of our Serbian Orthodox
Family of St.Sava in New York City,
I wish you
and your dearest God's Blessings,
Your
intercessor before the Altar of Almighty God
The Rev. Djokan Majstorovic
