Reverend Father
Djokan Majstorovic was born September 23 1962 in Vlasenica, Republic
of Srpska to father Branislav and mother Mara. In his birthplace
he received the basic education.
Subsequently,
Fr. Djokan went to the well respected Theological seminary in Monastery
Krka. He graduated from the seminary in the summer of 1982. In 1984
he began advanced studies at the Theological College in Belgrade
and graduated in 1989.
Upon graduation
Fr. Djokan went to Great Britain to study the English language.
While in Birmingham, England, Fr. Djokan put his theological education
to work by serving as an administrator in the Serbian Orthodox Church
of Saint Prince Lazar - Lazarica. His responsibilities as an administrator
included helping with the Divine services, religious studies for
children and the church publications.
Fr. Djokan
married Mirjana Andjelkovic in Birmingham in l99l. Because of the
war in Yugoslavia they could not return for Fr.Djokan to serve as
a priest in Zagreb-Ljubljana Diocese where he was assigned first.
He was ordained to the Holy Diaconate while still in England and
with his wife Mirjana, son Savo and daughter Marta, travelled to
the United States in l996 to become the priest at the St.George
Serbian Orthodox Church in Masontown, Pennsylvania.
By God's help
and mercy Fr. Djokan served the faithful of Masontown for two and
a half years. During his tenure as priest at the St.George Church,
the parish experienced a steady period of growth and Fr. Djokan
with his family was well-loved and respected.
While Fr. Djokan
was serving in Masontown, the needs of the Church in New York City
required a new priest. Knowing Father Djokan's solid theological
background and having witnessed his good work in Masontown, His
Grace Bishop MITROPHAN, Bishop of the Eastern American Diocese of
the Serbian Orthodox Church, called upon Father Djokan to take up
the spiritual leadership of the Cathedral of Saint Sava in New York
City. The Reverend Djokan Majstorovic assumed responsibilities as
Dean of the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral effective January
l6, l999.
