Exhibition treasures from the Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the Metropoliten Museum in New York
A special exhibit Byzantium: Faith and Power (1261–1557) was opened on March 15,2004 by the Patriarch Bartholomew. The exhibition will be run until July 4, 2004 at the Metropolitan museum in New York City.
The Museum of Serbian Orthodox Church and National Museum of Serbia will present. the following exhibits :
- Epitaphios of King Milutin from 1300.
- Jefimija's "Prince Lazar's Eulogy" from 1402.
- Mitra made by dother of Serbian despot George Brankovich, XV century
- Hand written Holy Bible, XV century
- Ripida from Banja monastery, 1559/1560
- Kivot of The Holy King Stefan of Decani, XIV century
- Icon of TheVirgin Odigitria
- Sculpture of The Virgin and child from Banjska monastery, XIV century
- Two icons made by icon painter Login, XVI century
- Rodop's church bell, XV century
- Rosette form Milentija monastery
- Ring of Queen Theodora, a masterpiece of Serbian goldsmiths trade, XIV century
- Hand written manuscripts from collection of The Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts
Mr.Slobodan Mileusnic, director of The Serbian Orthodox Church Museum from Belgrade states "This will be the perfect occasion for presenting our historical, cultural and spiritual legacy". The exhibition includes 350 exhibits from 30 countries.
